Perched above a historic part of the city, this vast high-rise is best known for its almost aerial views of Sydney Harbour from the restaurant and bar on level 36. In fact, Blu Bar is a destination in itself, especially for city workers heading for after-work drinks. All the 564 rooms feature harbour views (some better than others), window seats from which to admire them, and luxurious bathrooms. Health-conscious folk are catered for with a gym, futuristic indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Inspired by ancient Chinese healing, CHI Spa, cocooned in the centre of the hotel, offers a range of pampering treatments. The hotel is within walking distance of top Sydney spots Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and The Rocks.

We loved picnicking near Sydney Observatory - the park has superb views of The Harbour Bridge, The Opera House and Circular Quay.

Style & Character

Popular with business visitors, but its central location close to the sights, trains and ferries works for tourists too. The bird's-eye panorama of the harbour from the level 36 bar and restaurant is the standout feature.

Food & Drink

Blu Bar on level 36 makes a fabulous amaretto sour - the perfect accompaniment to that view. Our favourite dish at dinner is the steamed Murray Cod, spanner crab and kombu. Simple and delicious.

Altitude: fine dining, Australian cuisine. Dishes include blackened kingfish and roasted pumpkin risotto. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from AUD42.
Blu Bar: drinks, cocktails, high tea.
