The Tens at Owen House Farm isn't your typical country hotel. Instead of staying in grand surroundings in an historic hall, you get rustic-chic rooms in a converted stock shed; rather than opening the curtains to views of a formal garden, you come face to face with cattle chomping down on hay bales in the neighbouring barn. And that's exactly what draws people here - the charm of staying somewhere a bit different in the north-east Cheshire countryside. Although the setting, on a working, family-run farm, is decidedly rural, the rooms have luxurious 21st-century design flourishes and high-spec bathrooms, and this part of the country is no stranger to ritzy restaurants, bars and shops, with the upmarket towns of Knutsford and Wilmslow just a short drive away.

Nearby Tatton Park has loads to offer, from fabulous gardens and a huge deer park to a Neoclassical mansion and rare breeds farm.

The Tens is situated 3 miles from Manchester Airport. Knutsford and Wilmslow are both just a short drive away.
By car: 4.5 hours (200 miles) from London or 45 minutes (15 miles) from Manchester. Parking is available on site.
By Train: the closest station is Mobberly, with direct links to Manchester. Stockport has direct links to London and is a 30-minute drive away.
