WHAT WE LOVE...

Back in the 19th century the two brick warehouses at the eastern end of Nyhavn were used to store spices and tea. Now, they make up 71 Nyhavn Hotel, one of the most characterful places to stay in central Copenhagen. It's hard to believe that as recently as the 1960s this part of town was decidedly dodgy; these days it's a magnet for tourists, its prettily painted townhouses providing a colourful backdrop to a million and one holiday photos. Within the hotel, gnarly old beams provide lashings of historic charm, while contemporary comforts come in the form of designer Danish furnishings, great service and smart new bathrooms. Upgrade to a water-facing room and you can happily while away time just gazing at the view.
