This spa resort is situated in the leafy Hampshire countryside and centred around an old manor house next to a lake. With nearly 90 rooms, and plenty of day guests, you'll see lots of people in fluffy white bathrobes padding around the place moving from one treatment room to the next. The list of classes you can join is impressive if you fancy giving yourself a bootcamp; perhaps try hula hooping or Bollywood dancing to get your heart racing. Or just relax in the thermal suite or take gentle laps of the indoor pool. Guided walks and runs around the grounds let you explore the fabulous surroundings, and in the evening you can join fellow guests for self-improvement lectures.

We love taking a walk around the the lake and grounds, which are teeming with birdlife.

The homes of Jane Austen and naturalist Gilbert White are both about a half-hour drive away.
By car: around 1 hour 30 minutes from London, 3 hours from Birmingham and 4 hours 30 minutes from York. There is free parking on site.
By train: There is a direct line to Liphook from London Waterloo and the journey takes 1 hour 20 minutes. The hotel is a six-minute taxi ride from the station.
