WHAT WE LOVE...
A resort hotel on acres of immaculate golf course, Old Thorns is a friendly place with all the facilities you could wish for. Accommodation ranges from super swanky over-sized three-bedroom self-catering apartments to tiny wooden eco pods. With a restaurant, diner-style café, champagne bar and sports bar, along with a state-of-the-art gym, pool, wellness suite and spa, you may never need to venture out to explore the nearby historic Hampshire villages (Selborne, home to the 18th century ecologist Gilbert White is just 10 minutes away). Stay at the weekend and you might encounter a bride or four, as this is one of the most popular places in the county to get married. All levels of player can enjoy the par-72 golf course.

Gilbert White's House and the Oates collection is just 10 minutes away in Selborne and is a fascinating exploration of the ecologist (White) and South Pole explorer (Oates).
The hotel is on its own 400-acre estate on the outskirts of Liphook, a village with traditional shops and pubs.
By car: around 1 hour 15 minutes from London, 2 hours from Bristol and 2 hours 30 minutes from Birmingham. Free parking available.

We love the Saffron Suite, an apartment with three en-suite bedrooms and fully-equipped kitchen. It really has the wow-factor, with lofty ceilings and the dimensions of a house.

Sports Bar: informal all-day dining. American classics. Food served daily 12-9pm.
