WHAT WE LOVE...

A fun-loving boutique hotel on the North bank of the Giudecca canal. The location is a bit out of the way from the main tourist area, but it's only a short walk to the Guggenheim and the creative Dorsoduro district. The light here in summer is fantastic too, when the wide promenade is filled with cafe tables. The hotel is in an 18th-century building that was once the offices and cruise terminal of the Adriatic Shipping company, and lots of the original features have been kept, including the marble and terrazzo staircase. The heart of the hotel is the vibrant restaurant, serving Adriatic specialties, and the speakeasy cocktail club, which is true to the Experimental company's origins (they began as a cocktail bar in Paris) and serves up some innovative concoctions.

The garden is one of the largest in Venice and you can have breakfast under the mature trees in summer.

Our favourite room is number 203, a Junior Suite on the second floor with two large windows framing the view of the Giudecca canal. We love that every room has large coffee-table books about Italian design and photography.
