Spot the typo/wordplay as you step inside Santa Cruz de La Palma's El Hotelito 27. For the door reads El L'Otelito. Perhaps it's a linguistic joke as the Spanish famously drop their hs like Cockneys. The eighth letter of the alphabet is pronounced as silently in the Iberian mainland and islands as it is in Bow and its immediate surroundings. This three-star hotel is of the boutique variety which makes perfect sense as the La Palma capital is home to a mere 16,000 inhabitants. It's a little hotel with a big heart. Bright and white, it lets the light in. El Hotelito 27 is kept spotlessly clean, as you can see thanks to the magnifying power of sunshine.

Santa Cruz de La Palma is far more town than city but El Hotelito 27's pretty central setting is perfect.

The hotel is in the city centre with shops, bars, cafés and restaurants all around, a short walk from the beach.
By plane: flights from London take around 9 hours with a stop in Barcelona; flights from Birmingham take around 11 hours with a stop in Tenerife. The hotel is a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport.
