WHAT WE LOVE...

This family-owned estate centred on a mid-19th century manor house is set above Funchal with five acres of walled gardens and an attractive pool. Open to guests since 1989, it has a quiet and measured mood with loyal staff and repeat guests who appreciate its unflashy ways. Most of the spacious rooms are set in two purpose-built blocks, many with a balcony, while the numerous lounges and long corridors house a treasury of antique furniture and artworks. Some 60 per cent of guests are British who stay a week or longer, mixing excursions to Funchal and around the island with downtime in the leafy grounds. A stay here is certain to be restful while the quinta's generous meals, elegant dining rooms and genial staff create happy memories.
