WHAT WE LOVE...

Confusingly, there are two King's Heads at Holt - one within the high street of this charming Georgian town, and the other just outside it at Letheringsett. This is the one in the centre of the town, housed in a Grade II-listed building. The pub itself is pleasant enough but generally is pretty average and does not suggest how good the guest rooms are, which are particularly good value considering the local area. There's a popular bar area, an attractive, quieter restaurant serving popular pub classics and some more interesting dishes, and on the first floor three stylish and spacious rooms. Two have kitchenettes and are more like self-catering apartments.

Style & Character

Perfect for most ages, who won't be put off by being located above a busy pub. The bright and colourful bathrooms are a pleasant surprise.

The King's Head doesn't have many specific facilities but being in the heart of the town means there's much to enjoy a stone's throw away.

Room 3 has a mix of antique furniture and 1950s easy chairs, and a fabulous bathroom with black and white tiles. A highlight are the snazzy features, such as a bright red free-standing roll-top bath.

Food & Drink

We loved the wide use of fresh ingredients, for example, the daily catch used for the fish and chips. The homemade, locally sourced lamb moussaka made with lamb mince, tomatoes, aubergines, herbs and spices is a treat.

Restaurant: hearty gastropub food. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Mains from £13.50.
Bar: locally sourced beers from the Norfolk Brewhouse.
