Set within the charming village of Stanton Harcourt, where an old manor house is still owned by the family who built it in the 18th century and a curious circle of seemingly ancient stones attracts keen historians, the Harcourt Arms is a fabulous hotel. By car: around 1 hour 30 minutes from Bristol, 2 hours from London and 3 hours from Manchester. Free parking available.
By train: there are direct trains to Oxford from London Paddington, Birmingham and Manchester. The hotel is a 20-minute drive.

We arrived on a Tuesday so were offered an early check-in at midday. The Harcourt Arms love dogs and offer a bowl, treats and poo bags in the room, and plenty of biscuits at the bar.

The Blenheim Suite has the most spectacular copper bathtub for long soaks in the bedroom. A full size bottle of bubble bath was provided.

Food & Drink

The General Manager's negroni with a twist is the perfect way to start off your evening, and there's non-alcoholic sparkling wine for the drivers. We had a perfectly-cooked steak with a delectably creamy bearnaise sauce - a hearty feast!

The Harcourt Arms: 2 AA Rosettes. Pub classics, seasonal ingredients. Open Mon-Sat for lunch and dinner, Sun for lunch only.
