WHAT WE LOVE...

There's no escaping it - this is an unashamedly corporate hotel both inside and out, but don't let that put you off. It's in a great city centre location looking across to Edinburgh Castle, perfectly positioned for both shopping and sightseeing. You'll sleep well in bright generously-sized rooms and eat well in the One Square restaurant - one of the city's better kept secrets. There's a terrace for people-watching (try the One Square gin or a champagne afternoon tea) and if you're feeling guilty about excesses, work off the calories in the fitness centre, have a swim in the infinity pool or head straight to the thermal spa - if you can prise yourself away from the rooftop hydro-pool.

Style & Character

It's an everyman sort of hotel. You can come as you are or dress to the nines; either way you'll feel comfortable. There was always a quiet rising and falling background hum of people enjoying themselves rippling across the open lobby, bar and restaurant area.

Service & Facilities

If you fancy sitting in the sun rather than under the terrace umbrellas, just ask for a deckchair.

Rooms

Upgrade to a front-facing room and you'll have eyes for nothing but the castle, especially when it's lit up at night. We loved the soothing 'multi-sensory bath experience' with changing light colours and ESPA bath oils.

Classic, Sheraton Club Lounge, Sheraton Club & Spa, Suite, Grand Suite
Facilities include: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, hairdryer, tea and coffee facilities, TV, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

Try the 'Ginnasium' gin tasting, although you may want stay in the bar to eat after as a little weakness at the knees is likely! We loved the Stornaway black pudding and brawn pressé with gooseberry ketchup, crispy pig's ear and mustard green salad.

One Square Bar & Brasserie: seasonal Scottish produce. Mains include One Square burger, Isle of Lewis mussels and chicken supreme. All-day dining, open daily.
