Loch Ness may be eternally popular, but that means it is often busy, and staying on the banks of stunning Loch Lochy near Spean Bridge at this supremely comfortable retreat means you get to enjoy real tranquility. Near Fort William, it is a perfect point for touring the Highlands. Originally a hunting lodge built in the 1800s when the clan of MacMartins of Letterfinlay owned the land, it has been restored thoughtfully, with a great eye for interior design. Offering 25 comfortable rooms, it also features a lovely bar, a loch-side restaurant offering a great selection of delicious Scottish, Indian and international dishes, and an impressive spa.

The comfortable Luxury Loch View rooms deliver, as promised. Beyond the water, not one building can be seen on the mountains and hills. Some beds are huge and supremely comfy and the suites have impressive four-posters.

The inviting bar manages to effortlessly evoke an irresistible cosiness. The trout amandine, a pan-seared Scottish rainbow trout with sauteed green beans and butter almond sauce, was a special treat.
The Lochside Brasserie: waterfront restaurant and terrace. Indian and Scottish cuisine, dishes include tiger prawn biriyani and Scottish beef stew. All-day dining, open daily.
