Run by Suffolk chef Jonny Nicholson, The Sail Loft is a beachside restaurant with rooms that brings an almost Mediterranean air of relaxation to this corner of East Anglia. It serves food all day and has five simply furnished but contemporary rooms upstairs for those who can't bear the thought of going home. Just outside the centre of Southwold, it's an ideal base for visiting Suffolk's most genteel resort, as well as other parts of this enchanting stretch of coast. With country walks on your doorstep, it makes a versatile and very appealing weekend escape from London.

We love getting up and walking just a few yards to get your toes sandy and dip them briefly in the sea before breakfast.

The hotel is right on the Suffolk Heritage Coast, a 10-minute walk from the popular seaside town of Southwold with its historic pier, shops and restaurants.
By car: The hotel is 3 hours 20 mins from London, 2 hours from Cambridge and 3 hours 30 mins from Nottingham. There is free private parking on-site.
By train: London Liverpool Street to Darsham (via Ipswich) takes 2 hours 30 mins. The hotel is a 20-minute taxi ride from the station.
