Hotel Review
Hotel Indigo Edinburgh, Scotland
This bright and breezy hotel in a row of New Town Georgian townhouses suits those who want a good-value base with a funky boutique vibe. At the eastern end of York Place near Leith Road and St James Quarter, and 10 minutes from Princes Street and the station, it's a busy spot but the tram is right outside.
Rooms are fuss-free but funky with splashy rugs, wall-art designs of Edinburgh scenes, and colourful velvet chairs and sofas. It's breakfast-only but the young and on-the-ball staff have good knowledge of local restaurants for all budgets. Children and dogs are made very welcome.

Rooms
Rear rooms are quieter although without views; 111 feels very private, for example, while front rooms on the middle floors (such as 208 and 311) have high ceilings and tall windows, and feel grand and spacious. The mini-fridge treats - Tunnock's Caramel Bar and cans of Irn Bru - are fun, and refills are available if you ask nicely...

Food & Drink
A nice touch at this breakfast-only venue is that coffee and tea is freshly made, with plenty of refills available. At the staff's suggestion, we ate at nearby Vittoria on the Walk, a locals' favourite and well-established family-run Italian restaurant. Dishes ranged from their famous pizzas to veal Milanese, and we enjoyed a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Breakfast: continental cold buffet breakfast and hot breakfasts to order, including the full Scottish, porridge and pancakes.
