Located on Anna Maria Island, a spit of land just west of Bradenton and fifty miles south of Tampa on the Gulf Coast, this charming resort houses 37 stylish 'island villa-condos': self contained, two-bedroomed apartments with plenty of amenities. These include a fully-equipped kitchen, a washer-dryer and a living room with outside terrace. If you're arriving by boat, it has a 50-slip marina just outside, plus a swimming pool and restaurant. Owned by an independent hotel company, it's part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, a distinction awarded to particularly premium properties. And its setting is no less charming; Anna Maria Island retains a lot of Old Florida features, from pastel-coloured, heritage-style clapboard houses to fishing stores and wooden piers. There's a seven-mile stretch of white-sand beaches and dozens of seafood restaurants and lively bars. Most of the homes here are either second properties or holiday rentals, and you can see why when you visit; you might be temped to stay longer, too.

Serene Bean Point Beach, at the island's northernmost tip, is flanked by colourful, mansion-like houses.

Anna Maria Island has lovely white-sand beaches and a pretty marina - perfect for watersports.
By plane: direct flights from London to Tampa take 10 hours. The hotel is an hour's drive from the airport. Free parking on-site.

Style & Character

It's ideal for families or sets of couples. Each condo can actually sleep six, as the sofa in the living room also converts to a bed. There's a generous allocation of space. Most of the condos have different floor plans but all make the property feel roomy and relaxing.

We loved that you can borrow bikes from the hotel and explore the island on two wheels.

Food & Drink

The restaurant is popular with locals as well as guests. Grilled black grouper with black bean mango salsa and cilantro lime butter was nothing short of delicious.
