Hoxton hotels have been unashamedly hipster stylish right from their London Shoreditch beginnings. Their streetwise New York outpost is housed on the site of a former factory in the north of Williamsburg, originally a poor working class area now being transformed by rapid gentrification. The hotel is near a host of trendy bars, nightclubs, boutique shops, galleries, restaurants and coffee bars, and has that industrial vibe loved by youthful creatives ever on their laptops. Touches of Art-Deco and retro furniture amp up the snazzy look. The floor-to-ceiling windows in guest rooms and the ever-popular rooftop bar provide fabulous skyline views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. The L train subway and the East River Ferry dock are nearby for ease of access to Manhattan.

We enjoyed escaping frenetic Manhattan for an attractive, calm and relaxing neighbourhood with great eateries and bars to choose from.

Stroll around McCarren Park, admire the waterfront views from Hurricane Point or take the East River Ferry to Manhattan.
By plane: flights from London, Manchester or Edinburgh to New York take 7 hours. It's 30-minutes' drive from JFK airport. Paid parking available nearby.
