The Goodwood Hotel, Chichester, West Sussex
Stay in the heart of the action on the Goodwood Estate - handy for playing golf, watching the racing or even taking the controls of a plane in the aerodrome. Plus, there's a pool for dialling the pace down a notch. The neighbouring Farmer, Butcher, Chef restaurant is the biggest treat though, serving up 'nose-to-tail' meat reared on the estate's own organic farm. You'll need to book well ahead for the biggest sporting events - the horse racing Qatar Goodwood Festival and motor racing's Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival - when guests arrive dressed in vintage 40s, 50s and 60s style.
Goodwood is a destination in itself with its racetracks, golf courses, spa and aerodrome.
Set on the 12,000-acre Goodwood Estate, the hotel also has the South Downs National Park on its doorstep.
By car: There is plenty of free parking around the site. The hotel is a 2 hour drive from London and 1 hour from Brighton.
By train: Trains from London Victoria to Chichester run reguarly and take 1 hour 30 minutes. There is also the coastal service from Brighton and Portsmouth. The hotel is a 15-minute taxi ride from the station. thetrainline.com
