WHAT WE LOVE...

This dashing inn was once frequented by Prince Philip and sits at the entrance to Corsham's twee old high street, which was used as a backdrop for television's Poldark. It is run by Butcombe Brewery and has a large range of rooms with many traditional features. All are tastefully put together, with vibrant wallpaper, up-to-date finishes and luxury Bramley toiletries. The food is impressive, gastropub fare, and the beautiful golden-walled courtyard, strung with festoon lights, makes the inn a popular spot for alfresco dining. Less good is the slight traffic noise in some rooms. The hotel suits those who want an enjoyable, affordable dining experience and who would like to be close to Bath and the Cotswolds, with town-centre amenities on their doorstep.

We loved the atmosphere of the historic high street and the convenience of having the Cotswolds and Bath close by.

Style & Character

The inn suits weekenders who appreciate good food, on-trend interiors and period character. The courtyard with its twinkling lights, and the garden, overlooked by mature trees, are gorgeous places to relax with a drink.

Service & Facilities

We loved that the inn still has a section for drinkers downstairs, in contrast to other gastropubs.

Facilities include: ensuite bathroom with toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, desk, Roberts Radio, TV, free Wi-Fi

Food & Drink

We loved that breakfast portions were ample, with giant, buttery croissants and plates you could linger over. The eggs royale used home-smoked local trout and even included trout caviar in its creamy hollandaise.

The Methuen Arms: gastropub with kitchen garden, locally sourced produce. Dishes include Methuen burger, fish & chips and mussels. All-day dining, open daily.
