WHAT WE LOVE...

The Pear Tree is a wisteria and fairy-light clad inn with pretty gardens in a quiet village that's close to Bath, Lacock and Bradford-on-Avon. It combines traditional features with rustic charm and vintage collectibles, and has eight comfy, modern bedrooms with views over the nearby fields. The inn's "farmyard kitchen" showcases local produce and is worth making a journey for, offering up big portions and balanced flavours. The bar is a cosy spot - try one of the gin pairings - and in summer the garden really comes into its own, with tables set out under pear trees and an annual comedy festival. The inn is a good choice for families and visitors wanting to combine Bath with the Wiltshire countryside.

Style & Character

The hotel suits families, as well as guests who love gardens and being close to both Wiltshire and Bath. We love the vintage style of the interiors. The owners are collectors and the knick-knacks, toys and Beano art represent their unique taste.

Service & Facilities

The owners make a real effort to foster a team spirit, which reaps its own rewards. Pets are allowed in four of the rooms for £12.50 a night. Dogs must be kept on a lead in public areas. Doggy bags are available if you need them and there's a footpath nearby for walks.

Rooms

Our favourite room is Bartlett, which has lots of space, a king-size bed and a view of the front garden. We the rooms in the back garden too, as they have patio space outside and are quieter than those in the pub.

Anjou, Seckle, Starkrimson, Tosca, Bartlett, Comice, Forelle, Taylors Gold
Facilities include: ensuite bathroom with shower, Bramley toiletries, local tea and coffee supplies, homemade biscuits, Belu water, Smart TV, free Wi-Fi, desk

Food & Drink

Our favourite dish is a hearty lamb shoulder with a fresh-tasting gremolata, creamy mash and winter greens. We love the extensive gin menu, which pairs a large range of suggested gins with different flavoured tonics.

The restaurant: seasonal menus, homegrown and locally sourced produce, modern British dishes, pub classics, small plates. Mains from £14.25.
The bar: fresh local coffee, local ales on tap, gin menu, wines by the glass from independent vineyards.
