Steeped in ancient history and home to some of the Middle East's most famous attractions, Jordan is the ideal place for an adventure.
This unforgettable eight-day tour highlights Jordan's most exciting corners, from the historical settlements of Amman to magnificent Petra, and the Wadi Rum desert to the blissful Dead Sea's Hot Springs.
With a variety of unforgettable activities, from 4x4 desert tours to dining on authentic Jordanian food with a local family, you'll love this exceptional cultural odyssey. Flying into Amman, you'll begin your trip in one of the oldest continually habited cities in the world with history all around you.
From Amman, you'll travel on to Petra, to see the Nabatean architecture by night and day, with an illuminating guided tour. Carved out of sandstone, this breathtaking 'rose city' is one of the new Seven Wonders of the World and is thought to date back to 600BCE.
It's then time to head into the otherworldly Wadi Rum, a desert wilderness punctuated with dramatic sandstone mountains and canyons and beautiful lunar-like rock formations. You'll spend several hours exploring these awe-inspiring landscapes on a 4x4 tour, before checking into a traditional Bedouin desert camp for a comfortable night.
Your trip ends with two relaxing days in the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea. Take time to kick back on the region's pristine beaches, experience how it feels to float on the salty and buoyant lake and soak in the lovely Ma'in Hot Springs.
You'll arrive at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman today, where you'll meet your airport representative, who'll assist you through immigration and customs. You'll then transfer to your hotel in Amman and check in for the night.
After breakfast at the hotel, you'll enjoy a walking tour of Amman, including the historic Citadel. Amman's history spans nine millennia dating back to the Stone Age. The city boasts one of the largest Neolithic settlements ever discovered in the Middle East. You'll visit the Citadel and see its early Bronze Age tombs (3300-1200 BC), before continuing downtown for a stroll and a taste of the local food.
You'll then travel to Rainbow St in Jabal Amman. This street is a destination in itself. Amman residents come here every evening to promenade and to visit the many great cafes and restaurants - to see and be seen. There are plenty of shops if you come in the daytime (the area is good for souvenirs), but either way it's best explored by foot as the narrow one-way street easily clogs with traffic any time of day or night.
After enjoying the sights of Rainbow St, you'll head out to Beit Sitti restaurant for dinner. Meaning "my grandmother's kitchen" in Arabic, Beit Sitti serves up delicious traditional dishes in a welcoming environment.
After breakfast, you'll check out of your Amman hotel and transfer to Petra, stopping for lunch along the way. On arrival, you'll check in at your hotel to relax before seeing Petra by night.
Petra is justifiably on most people's list of 'must-visit' places. It is the jewel of Jordan, the lost city of the biblical Nabataean, an impressive series of tombs and dwellings hidden behind ornate facades carved directly into the rock. Dating back to the 6th century BC, the site was rediscovered in 1812 by a Swiss explorer.
Today you'll see Petra in the daylight, with an informative guided tour.
You walk down the increasingly narrow gorge and, just as you think the vertiginous sides could not get any narrower, the incredible vista of the Treasury appears. Beyond it are the Royal Tombs, the theatre, the Street of the Facades, the Great Temple and early Christian churches. It is a sight that will remain with you forever.
This evening, you'll enjoy dinner with a local family, feasting on more traditional Jordanian dishes.
After breakfast, you'll leave Petra and head to the Wadi Rum Desert, for a 4x4 tour.
Wadi Rum is full of weird and beautiful lunar-like rock formations. Traces of ancient civilisations can be seen in the many carved inscriptions found throughout the Wadi Rum area, from pictographs to Thamudic, Nabataean and Arabic texts. The most enduring monuments in Wadi Rum, however, are those carved by nature - the natural rock bridges, towering rose-coloured sand dunes and scattered rocky peaks.
The sands of Wadi Rum are red as Mars and its otherworldly terrain has been a backdrop in many famous movies.
You'll check in for the night at a comfortable Bedouin desert camp where you can continue to enjoy the incredible surroundings of Wadi Rum.
You'll leave Petra behind after breakfast, heading to the Ma'in Hot Springs three hours north. Popular with locals and tourists alike, the springs are 264m below sea level, and bathers enjoy the mineral-rich waters of these hyperthermal waterfalls.
You'll visit the Dead Sea - not a sea, but a salty lake. It's the lowest point on earth, and you can experience floating effortlessly.
Lunch follows at one of the beaches, before you head to your hotel to settle in.
Today is yours to spend as you wish. Perhaps you'll choose to relax on one of the Dead Sea's immaculate beaches, enjoy the experience of weightlessness floating in the water, or enjoy a long, lazy lunch in a local restaurant.
After breakfast, it's time to check out and transfer to Queen Alia International Airport for your flight home.
