Sail up England's east coast from Essex to Edinburgh, stopping off in the classic seaside town of Whitby and buzzing Newcastle

Tradewind's Golden Horizon is the World's largest square-rigged sailing vessel. Powered by the prevailing winds for at least 70 per cent of the year she has sustainability at her heart as well as the outstanding food, cabins and service levels expected of a five-star luxury cruise.

Sailing from Harwich, we'll spend a day at sea before arriving in bustling Whitby, Yorkshire. Home to a busy commercial port also used for fishing, the town is brimming with great seafood. Traditional fish and chips rarely gets better than in Whitby. Tour the ruined seventh-century Whitby Abbey before heading along the coast to quaint Robin Hood's Bay, or head inland and hike through the North York Moors National Park.

Our next stop is Newcastle, an enthralling city with an industrial past that today has a thriving art scene in its small galleries and a host of brilliant restaurants. From here, you might head into the small, attractive town of Corbridge to shop in its boutiques and visit the ruined Roman town that sits on Hadrian's Wall - the frontier of the Roman Empire in then Brittania.

At Berwick-upon-Tweed, right by the Scottish border, you could scale the ruins of its castle or enjoy some beach time on the nearby sandy swathes, before we end our voyage in Leith - the gateway to Edinburgh. Make time to visit the castle and medieval Royal Mile, and don't miss out on a taste of classic Scottish neeps and tatties in one of the old fashioned pubs.

Your home throughout will be the luxurious Golden Horizon, a near replica of a 1913-built ocean-faring ship, which combines the charm and romance of a classical vessel, with the food and service you expect of a modern ship.

There will also be time to enjoy the city's thriving shopping scene, drink Newcastle Brown Ale in a traditional pub or eat beside the river in the vibrant Quayside area. It's also home to the retired Royal Yacht Britannia, where Queen Elizabeth II once holidayed and entertained the rich, famous and influential. We then travel on to Edinburgh - or as it's affectionately known, Auld Reekie. It is a city of two very different halves: the historic Old Town, with its narrow, cobblestoned streets and the 'New' Town, where wide avenues are packed with grand Georgian buildings. Both have a rich cultural and literary history, plus atmospheric bars and restaurants. You can also visit the famous Edinburgh Castle, which sits on top of an extinct volcano, to find out more about Edinburgh's past while enjoying spectacular views over the city. Alternatively, head out of town to explore the sites of two great Scottish battles - at Bannockburn and the Wallace Monument in Stirling.
