Soak up beautiful scenery on nostalgic train rides through Kent and Sussex, and visit Leeds Castle and Walmer Castle

Step back in time to explore the city of Canterbury and the medieval Leeds Castle, and enjoy scenic rail journeys on some of Kent and East Sussex's railways on this five-day break in the south-east. Your trip begins among the half-timbered houses of Canterbury, home of the famous cathedral, where you'll stay in the comfortable Victoria Hotel, a short walk from the centre of the historic city.

After an introductory tour of the sights of Canterbury, including Palace Street, King's Bridge and the Old Weavers House, you'll have time to explore independently. You'll also visit the Tudor coastal fortress of Walmer Castle, which was built during the time of Henry VIII and was home to Queen Victoria as well as the Queen Mother from 1978 to 2002.

Walmer is a coastal castle and at one time was a Tudor artillery fortress, built during the time of Henry VIII. By 1727, Walmer Castle was made an official residence by The Duke of Dorset and in 1829, the Duke of Wellington was made Lord warden. He died at Walmer Castle, and his room is now displayed as it was when he died. Other famous residents included Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and from 1978 -2002, the Queen Mother. With over eight acres of gardens and woodland there is plenty to explore, including the Broadwalk Garden, the Queen Mother's garden and the Sunken Glen Garden.
